BROKERAGE

We are extremely interested to hear from people with exciting collections of well-cellared fine wine to sell. If you have well-stored fine wine with impeccable provenance, we have two unique programs to help you realize your investment.

Wine collectors often find that their circumstances, investment strategies and tastes change over time. Some collectors never have enough wine in the cellar and others find that they have too much.

Whatever the reason, it is perfectly possible to sell fine wines which may be surplus to requirements through a commercial broking service such as that provided by Batchelar Fine and Rare Wine.

With our global network of wine enthusiasts, traders and collectors we help bring sellers and buyers together.

Wines are offered for sale at the current market price to traders, the world’s great hotels and restaurants and of course, to other private buyers.

Outright Cash Sale

Batchelar Fine and Rare Wine will appraise your collection free of charge and if appropriate will arrange for outright cash purchase of your wine. Normally we will buy your wine for more than you'd expect to net from an auction and this service results in faster liquidation of your assets than other routes to market.

 Brokerage and Sale on Behalf

If you are not in a hurry to sell then we have a special programme that gives you higher valuation for your wine. Using our broking service you agree to give us the exclusive rights to sell your wine over a period of time (normally 60 days).

When the wines are sold we deduct a flat 15% commission, which means that you receive 85% of the selling price. There are no other deductions for storage or insurance whilst we are selling the wine.

We will arrange for the wines to be transferred to one of our secure, temperature-controlled cellars and carry out the same inspection procedures as if we were buying the wine outright. We'll work with you to agree realistic sales values and do our best to find a buyer as expediently as possible at prices that are generally significantly higher than you could realise via the auction market.

How does it work?

Contact us or use the Broking and Valuation Enquiry Form, list the wines you are interested in selling. Include all necessary information including producer, variety, special designation, vintage, bottle size, and number of bottles.

Let us know the location of the wine (in your own cellar or third party storage) and if it is under-bond or duty paid. Indicate each wine's condition. If the label or capsule is smudged or damaged, we want to know about it. Most important is the fill level. Indicate if the fill of the wine is below the neck, and if so, how far down the 'shoulder' the level rests.

If there is any sign of seepage around the cork, the cork protrudes from the top of the bottle or the wine level is below the top shoulder of the bottle, we are unable to purchase the wine.
