Deep crimson in colour with a purple hue. Powerful, ripe aromas of blackberry and plum with complexing hints of star anise, ferns, eucalypt and dark chocolate. The palate is an intense and concentrated blend of sweet, juicy plum pudding fruit and structured ripe tannin. With mouthfilling power, seamless texture and lingering finish the wine displays the hallmark characters of the Mount Edelstone vineyard in one of its greatest years.

RP 98 points - "One of the most colossal wines in all of my tastings was Jim Barry's 2004 Shiraz The Armagh, a 100% Shiraz aged 16 months in French and American oak. It is an opaque purple-hued, super-intense effort displaying great precision and richness. Notes of melted asphalt, acacia flowers, blueberries, blackberries, charcoal, and espresso roast emerge from this dull, dense, opulent Shiraz. The finish lasts for over 45 seconds. This is a great example of one of the icons of Australian Shiraz. Anticipated maturity: now-2025."Robert Parker, The Wine Advocate (USA), 31 October 2006

Intensely deep purple/ crimson in colour. Sweet perfumed bouquet overlaid with chocolate, prunes and liquorice, tar, truffles and earth. A lush, pure and sweet offering with all the essences of ripe Shiraz, ravishing spice and fruits of the forest, elements of baked cakes, clovey pepper, sweet suet, soy and plum and vanilla. A long well structured palate that is rich and complex finishing with silky velvety soft tannins. Wide strokes of layered tannins which dress the fruit in pantaloons of velvet, there are figures of port-like richness in the background, strong ruddy berries drive the enchanting palate. Seasoned by beautifully handled oak, it has dense but fine texture, thick ribena-like flavours, impeccable balance and length

96 Points. "The 2004 The Octavius is 100% Shiraz aged for 22 months in American and Hungarian oak, much of it new. Inky black/purple, it coats the glass with legs. It has an alluring perfume of toasty oak, plum, licorice, blueberry, bacon, blackberry, and a hint of chocolate. Voluptuous and youthful, it has intense flavors, plenty of well-concealed structure, and a 60-second finish. Cellar it for 8-10 years and drink it through 2035." Wine Advocate # 173, Oct 2007

92 Points. "The 2002 Stonewell Shiraz was barrel fermented and aged in new French and American oak hogsheads. The fruit was sourced from several of the Barossa's top addresses. It offers up aromas of toasty oak, spice box (cinnamon, clove, nutmeg), asphalt, blueberry, and blackberry liqueur. This is followed by a structured, tightly wound wine in which black fruits and chocolate make an appearance. It will benefit from another 8-10 years in the cellar and should drink well through 2027." 99 Points. "The 2002 Run Rig (97% Shiraz and 3% Viognier aged in 100% new French oak) represents the essence of old vine Barossa fruit. Extraordinarily opulent and rich, but playing it closer to the vest than the 2001, it gets my nod as one of the most remarkable wines made in either the Southern or Northern Hemisphere. An inky/purple color is accompanied by a sumptuous bouquet of apricots, honeysuckle, black raspberries, blackberries, licorice, and a hint of roasted meats. The wood has been soaked up by the wine's extraordinary concentration. Fashioned from four sectors of Barossa (Maranaga, Koonunga Hill, Moppa, and Greenock), it spent 30 months in primarily new oak, and was bottled without fining or filtration. Anticipated maturity: 2007-2020+.Wine Advocate # 161, Oct 2005
