Torbreck, Run Rig, 2002 (6 bottles @ $232 per bottle)

Torbreck, Run Rig, 2002 (6 bottles @ $232 per bottle)

99 Points. "The 2002 Run Rig (97% Shiraz and 3% Viognier aged in 100% new French oak) represents the essence of old vine Barossa fruit. Extraordinarily opulent and rich, but playing it closer to the vest than the 2001, it gets my nod as one of the most remarkable wines made in either the Southern or Northern Hemisphere. An inky/purple color is accompanied by a sumptuous bouquet of apricots, honeysuckle, black raspberries, blackberries, licorice, and a hint of roasted meats. The wood has been soaked up by the wine's extraordinary concentration. Fashioned from four sectors of Barossa (Maranaga, Koonunga Hill, Moppa, and Greenock), it spent 30 months in primarily new oak, and was bottled without fining or filtration. Anticipated maturity: 2007-2020+.Wine Advocate # 161, Oct 2005

Glaetzers, Amon Ra, 2006 (6 bottles @ $72.90 per bottle)

Glaetzers, Amon Ra, 2006 (6 bottles @ $72.90 per bottle)

97 - 100 Points. "Amon-Ra has become one of Australia's icon wines. Made from 100% Shiraz sourced from vineyards ranging in age from 80-120 years and with microscopic yields of 0.5 tons per acre, the 2006 Amon-Ra was aged for 15 months in new French and American oak. The wine is a thick, glass-coating, purple/black in color. The aromas cover a wide range of scents including smoke, vanilla, pepper, Asian spices, coconut, espresso, blueberry, and chocolate. Thick, rich, layered, and complete, this monumental wine offers extraordinary intensity and length. It requires 10-15 years to fully evolve and should easily last through 2040. Hats off to Ben Glaetzer for producing an extraordinary portfolio!" Wine Advocate # 173,Oct 2007

Castagna, Genesis Syrah, 2005 (6 bottles @ $89 per bottle)

"A deep crimson hue - never black nor purple, always alive; the colour of blood. The bouquet is rather difficult to describe - so much is happening here; violets, rose petals, smoked meats, black cherries, damp earth and musk. Equally as intriguing is the palate with its fresh, crunchy red to black cherries sidling up alongside notes of graphite, Szechuan pepper and tingling fresh acidity seasoned with exotic spices. It finishes powerfully with bitter dark chocolate laced with subtle smoke from the oak. At present, the wine sits delicately balanced on the knife's edge. In a few years the briar and undergrowth will emerge and the fruit will build the palate even further". Winemakers notes
