Domaine Meo Camuzet, Clos Vougeot, 2001 (6 bottles @ $275.00 per bottle)

“We are lucky to be situated at the top of the appellation, at the foot of the 'château'. These vines see more visitors than any others in the 'Clos'!”

The soil of this vast plot (nearly 7.5 acres), in one piece, has a well-balanced structure, but is not very deep (16 inches of topsoil); here the roots must work their way down through the cracks in the rocks. The work of the roots is immense, as they must go very deep to find what they need. How far down do they go, the vines planted in 1920, representing about one third of the vineyard plot? Another third have reached adulthood, as the vines were planted in the 1960s, the rest being 20 to 30 years old.

"Aromatic, showing green olive, sandalwood and floral notes, with sweet cherry, plum and spice flavors. This opulent, exotic red is balanced and long, with a refreshing finish. Enjoyable now, but will be better in a year or so. Best from 2008 through 2018. 725 cases made". Wine Spectator 2007.

Prieure Roch, Vosne Romanee 'Clos Goillotte', 1999 (6 bottles @ $456 per bottle)

92 Points. "Big, very serious, rather reserved nose with a healthy splash of new oak and Vosne spice notes with more obvious structure and density than the Hautes Maizières though it is not more complex or finer. This too offers excellent quality with respect to its appellation." Burghound 2001.
