Chateau Cos D'Estournel, 2005 (6 bottles @ $625.00 per bottle)

Château Cos d`Estournel is named after its 19th century owner, Louis-Gaspard d'Estournel, and it was he who built the bizarre oriental edifice that is a landmark for any tourist in the Médoc.

Today Cos d'Estournel is without doubt the leading estate in St-Estéphe. It is located in the south of the appellation on the border with Pauillac and its vineyards are superbly sited on a south-facing gravel ridge with a high clay content, just north of Lafite. Cos d'Estournel is typically a blend of 60% Cabernet Sauvignon, 38% Merlot and 2% Cabernet Franc - do not be fooled by the relatively high Merlot content, as these are full-bodied, dark, brooding tannic wines when young which develop a complexity and intensity that can rival many top growths from Pauillac.

In 1998 the Prats family sold Cos d'Estournel to The Tailan Group but Jean-Guillaume Prats remains in charge. Cos d'Estournel is classified as a 2ème Cru Classé.

Chateau Mouton Rothschild, 1996 (6 bottles @ $622 per bottle)

94 Points. “The impressive 1996 Mouton-Rothschild offers impressive aromas of black currants, framboise, coffee, and new saddle leather. This full-bodied, ripe, rich, concentrated, superbly balanced wine is paradoxical in the sense that the aromatics suggest a far more evolved wine than the flavors reveal. Anticipated maturity: 2007-2030. By the way, the 1996 blend consists of 72% Cabernet Sauvignon, 20% Merlot, and 8% Cabernet Franc.” Wine Advocate # 122 Apr 1999.

Chateau Palmer, 2003 (6 bottle case @ $349.00 per bottle)

Chateau Palmer, 2003 (6 bottle case @ $349.00 per bottle)

89 Points. "This estate's grand vin and second wine have both benefited immensely from stricter selections. The 2003 vintage's heat and drought stressed this vineyard's light soils, resulting in an atypical Palmer. The 2003 Palmer possesses a dark ruby/purple color, high, austere tannins, less flesh and mid-palate than usual, medium body, and a flowery black currant-scented bouquet. It lacks the extra dimension required aromatically, texturally, and flavor-wise to achieve their normal quality level. Anticipated maturity: 2010-2020." Wine Advocate # 164, Apr 2006.
