90 Points. "The 2003 Valpolicella Classico Superiore TB is wonderfully seamless in its vibrant dark cherries, chocolate and spice notes. It offers outstanding depth, notable poise and a long, finessed finish. Though not labeled as such, it too is made with the ripasso method, in this case using the leftover pomace from the estate's top Amarone bottlings. It spent two years in French oak. Anticipated maturity: 2008-2013." eRobertparker.com # 173, Oct 2007

Bussola's vineyards on the slopes around Negrar are in the heart of Valpolicella's Classico zone, the epicentre of Valpolicella. The difference between the pedigree vines and methods here, compared to the vast flatlands where wines are also called Valpolicella, provides dramatic contrast. The depth of a Bussola wine sees the dark and saturated maraschino cherry fruit hosting other complexities of herbs, earth and spice. The process of ripasso adds more elements again. The newly fermented and racked Valpolicella is run over the lees/skins of last years Amarone and with a brief refermentation comes the infusing of some of Amarones richly herbal, chocolate, raisins and dried cherry characters into the round and juicy maraschino cherry fruit of the Valpolicella. This combo is fantastic and is an exception to the general rule that there is no quality result in taking shortcuts with wine. One result of ripasso is to make an already food-friendly wine more able to partner really rich and earthy dishes. Long, dark braises, with mushroom, and even soy, vinegar and chilli, fall easily to ripasso's charms.

93 Points. "The 2002 Amarone Classico BG is simply superb. Endowed with deep layers of black cherries, chocolate and licorice, it reveals a sweet, voluminous texture and outstanding length. While it may not have the stuffing to be particularly age worthy, it is incredibly delicious today. In 2002 the Amarone Classico BG contains the fruit that otherwise would have been used for the Amarone TB and Vigneto Alto. The wine was aged in a combination of new and used Slavonian and French oak barrels. The blend is 65% Corvina and Corvinone, 30% Rondinella and 5% Molinara and miscellaneous other varieties. Anticipated maturity: 2007-2012." eRobertparker.com # 173, Oct 2007

93 Points. "The estate's top of the line 2001 Amarone Classico Riserva Sergio Zenato is superb. A blend of Corvina, Rondinella and Sangiovese, it reveals expressive aromatics followed by a compelling array of raisins, tar, chocolate and sweet fruit. It, too, comes across as powerful and brawny in style, but it is also a much more complete, rich wine than the 2003 Amarone tasted alongside it. This beautiful Amarone offers terrific length and a long, resonating finish. It spent three years in large oak barrels. Anticipated maturity: 2007-2011." eRobertparker.com # 173, Oct 2007

The excellent 2005 Valpolicella Classico (60% Corvina Veronese, 35% Rondinella, and 5% Molinara, aged in tank prior to release) offers abundant amounts of sweet and sour cherries along with hints of dried herbs, white chocolate, and mocha, light tannin, and medium body. This classic Valpolicella is best drunk over the next 2-3 years. Wine Advocate # 165, Jun 2006

93 Points. "A superclean, juicy Amarone, with concentrated dried black fruit and a well-concealed, smooth oak note. Full-bodied, with fine tannins that give the palate an elegant poise and prolong the fruity finish. Classy and refined, with a long finish. Drink now through 2012. 12,500 cases made". 92 Points. "The 2003 Barolo Ornato, from a vineyard in Serralunga, is a big, brooding wine loaded with scorched earth, smoke, dark fruit and plenty of toasted oak. Made in full-bodied, super-ripe style, the wine possesses outstanding depth with a note of alcoholic warmth on the finish. While not the most subtle Barolo out there, this is a very strong effort from Pio Cesare. Anticipated maturity: 2011-2023." Wine Advocate # 173, Oct 2007

This is great Barolo from a single great vineyard and shows all the style of top Barolo and the slowly evolving characters of its commune. A La Morra wine is relatively generous and slowly opens up to show the famous characters of dried roses, fennel seed and herbs, chocolate, mushroom and raisins - and more! The generally firmer and savoury style and higher tannins and acidity of Nebbiolo, do make it a wine best suited to deep, rich and robust foods, a braise, something earthy/mushroomy or a great piece of (firmer) cheese or meat. Give this wine a good hours breathing or a double decant
