Craggy Range, Le Sol Syrah, 2006 (6 bottles @ $106.50 per bottle)

94 Points. "2006 Le Sol has a brilliantly defined nose with white pepper and plum; the palate displayed an exquisite, natural balance with satin-like texture and a powerful, yet also somehow delicate finish of plum, blackberry and boysenberry." Wine Advocate Issue #176, Apr 2008. Hawke's Bay is fast gaining a global reputation for refined and elegant Syrah and Le Sol deserves it's coveted position at the top table being arguably the best example on the regional style.

Esk Valley, Reserve Syrah, 2006 (6 bottles @ $61.95 per bottle)

Esk Valley, Reserve Syrah, 2006 (6 bottles @ $61.95 per bottle)

This is a very deeply coloured and very aromatic wine. It displays classic varietal notes of violets, plums, black fruits and pepper. The wine is full bodied and mouthfilling but a high natural acidity gives the wine freshness and length. French oak spice complements the fruit. 100 cases only were produced. Champion Wine of the Show Trophy & Gold Medal - Royal Easter Wine Show, 2007

Biliancia, La Collina Syrah, 2004 (6 bottles at $190.00 per bottle)

93 Points. "The 2004 La Collina Syrah is exceptionally fine. As one might guess from the name, sourced from their vines planted in 1998 on the upper terraces of a north-facing hill, matured for 22 months using 90% new French oak, this wine has a subtle nose of red-berried fruit, white pepper, raspberry leaf and a hint of truffle, all with superb definition, the palate taut, well-poised with superb tension and acidity, notes of dark cherries, Doris plum, licorice, and garrigue on the elegant, focused finish. Considering how young the vines are, future vintages will be fascinating to follow as they mature." Wine Advocate Issue #176, Apr 2008. Alongside Craggy Range le Sol and Vidal Reserve, La Collina rates first equal as NZ's finest Syrah label. This is special wine from a superb producer who has made the most of the fantastic 2005 syrah vintage.
