It of reminds us of a cross between a Macon Village and a Grand Cru Chablis (if that is possible?). A little bit rustic and unpretentious on the one hand, but a truly classy, complex but very subtle wine on the other. This wine has it all and believe us, you won't be disappointed (serve 30 minutes to an hour out of the fridge for maximum drinking pleasure). Influential US wine writer Robert Whitley has described the 2006 Kumeu River Village Chardonnay as "the world's finest chardonnay for the money." "The "Village" chardonnay from Kumeu River (on the north island, just outside of Auckland) is the world's finest chardonnay for the money. This is by no means Kumeu River's top chard- that would be the Mate's Vineyard- but you won't find a better chard for the money. The '06 is full and voluptuous in the mouth, with notes of spice and aromas of baked apple, lemon and butterscotch, but bracing acidity binds all the elements together and keeps the wine fresh, clean and crisp. Rating 92 points"
