Hennessy V.S.O.P ‘Very Superior Old Pale’ was blended for a prince and it is still beautifully rounded today. It has a complex aromatic balance with suppleness, depth and persistence. In 1817, the future King George IV of England asked Hennessy to supply him with a ‘very superior, old and pale cognac’. By the end of the 19th century, V.S.O.P, as it had become known, had firmly established its reputation among the nobility.

Hennessy X.O, the first ‘eXtra Old’ cognac, is powerful, masculine and generous - a genuine pleasure. It releases woody, spicy aromas. Now an established symbol of luxury, its rich character is enhanced by a distinctive decanter designed in 1947. EXtraOrdinary, Extra Old. X.O was created in 1870 by Maurice Hennessy for the private use of the Hennessy family. X.O was then commercialized and shipped that same year to Ireland and then to Shanghai as of 1872. Hennessy X.O, the original of the category eXtra Old, was re-launched in 1947 in the now famous decanter ‘à pampres’.

In 1774, Richard Hennessy set up a small warehouse on the right bank of the River Charente to house his rarest eaux-de-vie. It is now known as the Founder’s Warehouse. Since then, eight generations of the Hennessy family have built up what is now the finest collection of old eaux-de-vie in the world. It is from these that Hennessy has been able to create Paradis Extra.
